Where will the wedding take place?
Our wedding will take place at La Gloria Tolantongo Resort, located in the breathtaking Tolantongo Canyon in Hidalgo, Mexico.
The ceremony will be held outdoors in front of one of the resort’s stunning waterfalls. A wedding coordinator will guide guests to the ceremony location so everyone arrives comfortably.
What airport should we fly into?
Guests should fly into:
Mexico City International Airport (MEX)
Benito Juárez International Airport
From there it is approximately a 3–4 hour drive to Tolantongo Canyon.
How do we get from the airport to the resort?
There are three main options for transportation:
• Wedding Guest Shuttle
• Renting a car
• Hiring a private driver
More detailed travel information and recommendations can be found in the "TRAVEL" section of this website. 😊
What is the exact name of the resort?
Our wedding events will take place at:
La Gloria Tolantongo
During the weekend we will also spend time at the neighboring resort:
Grutas Tolantongo
Both resorts are located within the same canyon area. The two resorts are connected. Both resorts have MANY hotel options on site.
Is this location family friendly?
Yes! Tolantongo is a very family-friendly destination, and children are absolutely welcome.
The canyon truly offers something for everyone, whether you want adventure or relaxation.
Guests can:
• soak in the hot springs
• swim in the river
• zip-line across the canyon
• explore water caves
• enjoy restaurants and scenic viewpoints
• camp, stay in cabins, or stay in hotel rooms
Some people come for adventure, while others simply relax in the warm pools and take in the beautiful surroundings.
When should I arrive and depart?
We recommend arriving in Mexico City on June 10. Transportation from MEX airport to "La Gloria" resort will be available June 10th.
Wedding events begin June 11, and transportation back to the airport will be available June 15.
Please see "TRAVEL" section for more transportation & travel details.
Is the resort cash only?
YES!
Most restaurants, activities, and hotels at Tolantongo operate on a pesos-only basis.
A few hotels may accept cards, but we strongly recommend bringing Mexican pesos for meals, activities, and hotel stays.
There are no ATMs in the canyon, so please plan ahead.
How much cash/ how many pesos should I bring?
This depends on your plans, but here is a general estimate.
Typical costs per person per day:
Meals
150–250 pesos per meal ($8–$15 USD)
Hot springs / park entry
about 200 pesos per person ($10–$12 USD)
Hotel rooms at La Gloria typically range from:
1000–1500 pesos per night depending on room size.
A comfortable estimate is:
800–1500 pesos per person per day
(about $40–$80 USD)
Where should I get Mexican pesos?
We recommend withdrawing Mexican pesos directly from an ATM at the Mexico City airport (MEX) when you arrive.
Airport ATMs typically offer the best exchange rates and are the easiest way to get cash before traveling to Tolantongo.
Since the resorts in the canyon are largely peso-only and there are no ATMs in the area, it’s best to withdraw enough pesos for your stay before leaving the airport.
What should I pack?
Tolantongo is a canyon resort with waterfalls, hot springs, and mountain terrain.
Suggested packing list:
• swimsuit
• water shoes or sturdy sandals (highly recommended)
• comfortable walking shoes
• breathable clothing for warm days
• a light jacket for cooler evenings
• sunscreen
• cash (Mexican pesos)
• a small backpack or day bag

What is there to do at Tolantongo?
Tolantongo Canyon is an incredible natural destination with something for every kind of traveler - whether you’re feeling adventurous or simply want to relax and enjoy the views.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the canyon throughout the weekend and explore both La Gloria Tolantongo and Grutas Tolantongo, which are connected and easy to walk between.
Activities available in the canyon include:
• soaking in the iconic turquoise cliffside hot springs
• swimming in the river that runs through the canyon
• exploring the cave and tunnel pools
• relaxing in the thermal pools carved into the mountainside
• zip-lining across the canyon
• enjoying their waterslide (Saturday only)
• walking scenic paths and bridges throughout the property
• enjoying restaurants located throughout the resorts
• taking in the incredible mountain and waterfall views
Some guests come for the adventure, while others simply relax in the warm pools and enjoy the stunning natural surroundings.
Is there WiFi at Tolantongo?
Yes, some hotels offer WiFi, though connectivity can vary. Tolantongo hotels are somewhat rustic, and because the resort is located inside a canyon, service may be more limited in outdoor areas or remote parts of the property.
Most guests spend their time enjoying the natural hot springs, river, caves, and canyon landscape, and connectivity is generally available in main hotel areas.
Hotels? Booking?
SEE “TRAVEL” SECTION FOR DETAILS ON HOTELS & BOOKING! 😊
Do I need to make a reservation in advance?
Reservations can be helpful but are not always necessary. Tolantongo operates a bit differently than traditional hotels. Many guests reserve rooms through WhatsApp, while others simply book rooms upon arrival, depending on availability.
Across the hotels on the Grutas side there are roughly 250–300 rooms, and many rooms accommodate 4–6 guests, allowing the resort to host well over 1,000 overnight visitors.
When Sierra and Daniel previously visited Tolantongo, they did not have reservations and were able to secure rooms each night without difficulty.
(SEE “TRAVEL” SECTION FOR MORE DETAILS ON HOTELS AND BOOKING😊)
Which side of the resort should I stay on?
Sierra and Daniel recommend staying on the Grutas side of the resort.
Grutas has more restaurants, easier access to the hot springs pools, and most of the resort’s main attractions.
La Gloria is quieter and more immersed in nature, and it is where the wedding ceremony and events will take place.
Guests are strongly encouraged to explore both sides of the canyon regardless of where they stay. Both are incredible in their own special ways.
How close are the two sides of the resort?
La Gloria and Grutas are located within the same canyon resort area.
Guests typically travel between the two areas by walking, taxi, zip line, or short shuttle rides within the property.
How many people fit in a room?
Most rooms accommodate 2–4 guests, though some larger rooms can comfortably host 4–6 people, which can make lodging very affordable when shared with friends or family.
Are the hotels luxury hotels?
The accommodations at Tolantongo are simple but clean and comfortable. The focus of the resort experience is the natural hot springs, canyon landscape, and outdoor activities rather than luxury hotel amenities.
Who should I contact if I have questions about lodging?
If you have any questions about booking or accommodations, feel free to contact Daniel, and he will be happy to help guide you.
(SEE “TRAVEL” SECTION FOR MORE DETAILS ON HOTELS AND BOOKING😊)
Is there hot water in the hotels?
Some hotels at Tolantongo have hot water, while others have cool or unheated showers. Because the resort is located in a natural canyon environment, amenities can vary slightly between buildings. Most guests spend the majority of their time enjoying the naturally warm hot springs pools, which are one of the highlights of the resort.
Are there medical services nearby?
Yes. The resort has paramedics on site who are available to assist with medical situations.
If needed, the paramedics can consult with a doctor and administer appropriate medication under medical guidance.
For more advanced care, the nearest hospitals are located in the town of Ixmiquilpan, about 1–1.5 hours from the canyon.
Are there travel advisories for Mexico or the area where the wedding will take place??
The U.S. Department of State maintains a travel advisory system for every country, which travelers can review at:
https://travel.state.gov
The system uses four levels:
Level 1 – Exercise Normal Precautions
Level 2 – Exercise Increased Caution
Level 3 – Reconsider Travel
Level 4 – Do Not Travel.
☀️Mexico as a whole is commonly listed at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. This rating is very common for many international destinations and major cities around the world. A Level 2 advisory does not mean a place is unsafe to visit — it simply recommends standard travel awareness, such as being mindful of surroundings and following normal precautions while traveling abroad.
☀️Our wedding will take place in Tolantongo Canyon in the state of Hidalgo, which is currently classified at Level 2 with no specific travel restrictions related to tourism in this area.
Guests will fly into Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and then travel approximately 3–4 hours to the canyon resort by shuttle, rental car, or private driver.
☀️Daniel and Sierra have already traveled to Tolantongo and had an excellent experience there, and we feel very comfortable hosting our celebration in this area.
We also maintain local contacts familiar with the region and will continue to monitor official travel guidance leading up to the wedding.
Is the terrain difficult to walk?
Tolantongo is built into a canyon, so there are paths, stairs, and natural terrain throughout the resort.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring.
Can guests visit both resorts?
Yes. La Gloria Tolantongo and Grutas Tolantongo are connected and within walking distance of each other.
Guests are welcome to stay at hotels on either side of the canyon and move between the two resorts throughout the weekend by foot or the Tonkibus shuttle (which is a true Mexico party bus experience you don't want to miss).
The resorts are connected by walking paths, making it easy to explore both areas and enjoy everything Tolantongo has to offer.
A small entrance fee (in pesos) may apply when entering Grutas Tolantongo.
Together the resorts offer restaurants, hot springs, river swimming areas, zip-lining, and incredible canyon views.
Is the water safe to swim in?
Yes. The hot springs and river are natural mineral waters and are safe to swim in.
The springs maintain a warm temperature year-round and are one of the most famous natural attractions in Mexico.
A Note from Daniel & Sierra
Thank you for traveling to celebrate with us. We know Tolantongo is a bit of an adventure to reach, and it means the world to us that you’re making the journey.
This canyon is one of the most magical places we’ve ever experienced, and sharing it with the people we love most feels incredibly special.
We hope this weekend becomes more than just a wedding — that it turns into a few unforgettable days of laughter, connection, hot springs, good food, and beautiful views.
We truly can’t wait to celebrate with you.
With love,
Daniel & Sierra
