Our Wedding

Daniel and Sierra first met on February 11, 2012 in Newport Beach, California.

At the time, Sierra was living in Los Angeles and decided, on a whim, to take a surf lesson in Newport. Her instructor invited her and a friend to grab coffee afterward and casually mentioned, “My philosophy professor is coming too.”

That professor was Daniel. Daniel rode his bike down to Alta Coffee that morning, completely unaware he was about to meet the person who would change everything. There, sitting outside just steps from the ocean, they met for the first time. Sierra remembers noticing Daniel’s big smile and magnetic energy immediately, but also the way he spoke: intelligent, thoughtful, and deeply curious about life. Daniel noticed Sierra just as quickly, this radiant, unforgettable presence with a giant joyful smile, quick wit, and a wild, unmistakable energy. There was something about her that wasn’t just seen, it was felt. Safe to say… the feeling was mutual.

Four weeks later, Sierra made a bold move. She found three jobs and moved herself steps from the ocean in Newport Beach, unknowingly just a five-minute walk from Daniel’s house. Serendipity? Magic? Maybe both. Their early relationship was fueled by spontaneity and very little sleep. Sierra would sneak through Daniel’s kitchen window before sunrise and whisper, “Surf’s up, let’s go,” and Daniel would somehow agree to this every time.

From there, it was nonstop. That summer set the tone for the life they would continue building, saying yes to curiosity, discovery, and whatever the day might bring. They surfed, hiked, danced, rode around town on Sierra’s 50cc scooter, went skydiving, cliff jumping, white-water rafting, and made friends everywhere. They said yes to anything that sounded even remotely fun (or slightly questionable).

What started as a summer romance slowly turned into something much bigger. Over the years their relationship evolved into a remarkable friendship. They hosted holidays together, organized group hikes and cabin trips, and built a community of friends wherever they went. Sierra loves bringing people together around food and celebration, and Daniel has always been the life of the party.

Through the years they traveled far and wide, exploring national parks, chasing waterfalls, soaking in hot springs, and sharing endless conversations about life and its meaning.

They’ve river-tubed in Belize, jumped into cenotes in the Dominican Republic, and slid down natural waterfalls in Puerto Rico. They’ve rafted waterfalls and mountain biked through New Zealand, backpacked the most difficult route to Machu Picchu without a guide, and via ferrata–climbed and zip-lined to an overnight glass pod on a cliff in Peru’s Sacred Valley. They’ve also backpacked the Kumano Kodo in Japan, and even crossed paths with a bear (which, thankfully, chose peace). They said yes to life again and again.

And somehow, through all of it, the greatest constant wasn’t the thrill of the journey, it was how much they simply loved being together. Over time they showed up for each other through life’s deeper moments too, standing beside each other’s families, supporting one another through difficult seasons, and building something rooted not just in excitement, but in care, trust, and presence.

Then, more than a decade after they first met, Daniel had a realization that felt both surprising and completely obvious: Sierra wasn’t just his best friend. She was the one. So Daniel did what any philosophy professor in love would do, he wrote her a heartfelt letter, putting into words what had been quietly building for years: that the love he had been searching for had been right beside him all along. Sierra, being the thoughtful (and slightly cautious) one, took a beat. Their friendship meant everything, and risking it wasn’t a small thing.But the more she reflected, the clearer it became: They had already built something most people spend a lifetime trying to find. A friendship full of loyalty, laughter, deep understanding, and a connection that never faded, no matter what life looked like. And they genuinely just loved being together. Daniel had always been the first person Sierra called with good news, bad news, or anything in between. They never ran out of things to say, places to explore, or reasons to laugh. What they’ve found together is rare, a love that feels like friendship at its core, layered with deep respect, undeniable chemistry, and a deep sense of belonging. After nearly fifteen years of knowing each other, through countless miles, experiences, and seasons of life, Daniel and Sierra are choosing each other now and always, fully, intentionally, and for life. And yes... Sierra still occasionally tries to wake Daniel up for sunrise surf sessions. Some things never change.

Hendrix is Daniel’s 13-year-old son and best man who loves the tea (the latest gossip), crude jokes and is easily one of the most interesting humans in the room. He’s currently deep in the musical rabbit holes of Nirvana and Weezer, can outgame just about anyone, and is quietly building himself into a volleyball player and calisthenics machine.On any given day, you’ll find him debating ideas, watching The Simpsons, organizing a pizza night, or posting sharp takes on TikTok that are somehow both thoughtful and hilarious. His latest craze is stepping behind his bar cart as a mocktail mixer, so keep an eye out for "Hendrix's Happy Hour."He also spends his Saturdays volunteering at Foothill Kitchen in Monrovia, helping serve those without homes, because underneath all the humor and talent, he’s got a genuinely big heart.Hendrix keeps Dan on his toes, makes him laugh, and reminds him what actually matters. There’s no one else Daniel would rather have standing beside him.

Kerri and Sierra have been best friends for ten years, and somewhere along the way she became family - a sister in every sense.We’ve lived together in different corners of the country and have traveled all over the world, navigating life as flight attendants, travelers, and a pair of happy vagabonds. No matter where we landed, our conversations never seemed to run out, and our adventures only seemed to multiply.Together we’ve traveled near and far: Australia, Bali, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Iceland, and countless places in between. We’ve surfed, camped, witnessed geysers and dipped in hot springs, and embarked on epic backpacking trips, including section hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. We’ve enjoyed doing absolutely everything - and just as much nothing at all.One of the things I love most about Kerri is her ability to create joy wherever she goes. She has a way of finding humor in almost any situation, and her honesty - delivered with perfect timing - always keeps things real.Kerri is thoughtful, creative, kind, and fiercely loyal to the people she loves. She takes care of her friends, loves deeply, and carries a strength that I admire more than she probably realizes.Through every chapter of life, she has never made me feel like anything less than important to her - and that is a rare and beautiful gift. I feel incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful soul in my life. She truly means the world to me.There’s no one Sierra would rather have standing beside her.

We invite guests to dress in relaxed yet elegant clothing inspired by the natural colors of the canyon. Think breathable fabrics, flowing silhouettes, and earth-inspired hues such as greens, terracotta, rust, warm yellows, and soft neutrals. Light, comfortable, and stylish pieces are encouraged for a beautiful evening welcome dinner in the canyon. For women, breezy midi or maxi dresses, elegant sandals, wedges, or stylish flats work beautifully. For men, linen or lightweight button-down shirts paired with slacks or chinos and loafers or dressy casual shoes are perfect. Please avoid formal suits and ties, stark white or black outfits, and bold patterns.

Getting to Tolantongo Our wedding will take place at La Gloria Tolantongo Resort, located in the mountains of Hidalgo, Mexico, about 3.5 hours from Mexico City International Airport (MEX). The resort sits inside a beautiful canyon surrounded by mountains and natural hot springs. Because of its unique location, getting there requires a scenic drive through the countryside — but we promise the destination is well worth the journey. ⸻ Flights Guests should plan to fly into: Mexico City International Airport (MEX)Benito Juárez International Airport We recommend arriving on June 10 so everyone has time to travel comfortably to the resort before the wedding festivities begin. ⸻ Transportation from Mexico City to Tolantongo There are three main options for getting from Mexico City to the resort. ⸻ Option 1 ✨Wedding Guest Shuttle✨ We will be organizing a private shuttle reserved for wedding guests traveling from Mexico City to La Gloria Tolantongo Resort. If you would like to reserve a seat on the shuttle, please let us know when you RSVP. • Seats are limited• Departure time on June 10 will be announced once we know how many guests plan to ride the shuttle. A return shuttle will also be arranged on June 15 to take guests back to Mexico City Airport. The departure time will be announced once guest travel plans are confirmed. ⸻ Option 2 ✨Renting a Car✨ Renting a car is a great option for guests who prefer flexibility or want to explore the surrounding region. The drive from Mexico City Airport to La Gloria Tolantongo Resort is approximately: 3–4 hours (about 120 miles / 190 km) The route travels on hwys and small towns, and beautiful countryside before descending into the Tolantongo canyon. Important note about renting a car in Mexico: Mexico requires third-party liability insurance when renting a vehicle. Many rental companies sell this insurance at the counter for $30-40 a day. When we visited Mexico City previously, we purchased Allianz Insurance for approximately $15 a day online ahead of time, which saved money and was accepted by the rental agency. <a href="www.allianztravelinsurance.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.allianztravelinsurance.com</a> We also got a great rate with National at the counter in the airport. Drivers will pick you up directly from the airport and drive you to the resort. This can be a great option for couples or small groups traveling together. Hotels &amp; Lodging There are 6 hotels located on the Grutas Tolantongo side of the canyon and 1 hotel complex on the La Gloria Tolantongo side. Both areas are part of the same resort, and guests are welcome to explore the entire property during their stay. ⸻ Grutas Tolantongo Sierra and Daniel recommend that guests stay on the Grutas side of the resort. Grutas is the more developed side of the property and offers multiple restaurants, easy access to the famous hot springs pools, the river, caves, hiking trails, and several other activities. La Gloria Tolantongo Our wedding ceremony and events will take place on the La Gloria side of the canyon. La Gloria is less developed in terms of building and hotels, allowing it to feel fully immersed in nature, with dramatic canyon views, waterfalls, and a very peaceful atmosphere. There are one or two restaurants in La Gloria, creating a quieter setting surrounded by the canyon landscape. The La Gloria hotel complex includes several room types:• Hotel La Gloria• Thermal Rooms• King Rooms• Double Rooms ⸻ There is a lot of stairs from the wedding site to the top of the canyon where most of the accommodations reside and their resort pool.
